Real Futures helps profoundly deaf jobseeker find employment

Geraldton local, William Jones, is profoundly deaf with the ability to only communicate via Auslan Sign Language. Due to communication barriers, William has found it very difficult to gain employment. Having attended many interviews, William was never given the opportunity to show his worth. As a result, his self worth and confidence was very low.

Chris from Real Futures encouraged William, and built up his confidence with moral support. Chris was there to assist with the interview process, if William needed him.

Real Futures Employment Consultant, Chris Collins, worked with William, meeting with employers to discuss possible opportunities. Finally, one employer could see how valuable William would be on his team and offered him a job.

This was a life changing opportunity for William. He couldn’t wipe the smile off his face when he was told of his new job.

“It was great to see William’s face light up when I told him about his new job. This is why I do what I do”, said Chris.

You can now find William smiling in the fruit and vegetable section of the local supermarket.

William has been employee-of-the-month more than once. He has also been promoted to the Dairy section. He’s “absolutely loving it”.
