Since 2019, Real Futures have been working with Dawn supporting her return into employment.
Dawn had been in a long-term unemployment situation due to dealing with family matters as a single mother. With the time constraints this had for Dawn she sacrificed her own personal goals and career to care and support her children and grandchildren.
For 20 years now Dawn has not been employed but with the strengths and skills from being a good mother, we saw potential for Dawn to work in the Aged Care sector.
Previously Dawn did not have any identification or a driver licence but with the ongoing innovative support of Real Futures to address these barriers, Dawn has since obtained her birth certificate, photo ID, WWCC, NPC and a learners driver license and due to get p-plates in January 2023.
Since April, Real Futures PPS officers worked closely with Dawn to get into employment in the Aged Care Sector industry and Dawn succeeded into a Patient Care Assistant role. With the support of WACHS, they gave Dawn the opportunity to gain on the job experience and after a long process trying to obtain pre-employment requirements Dawn commenced new employment in early August 2022.
Dawn really strives in this new role, and she is portraying perseverance after being out of employment for so long and really values the opportunity which has been given to her.
Real Futures PPS officers continue to offer ongoing support to Dawn to ensure that she is well established in her new employment and continues to achieve great things. Congratulations Dawn and to everyone involved in this achievement.
