Dennis Starts His Dream Career in Animal Care

Dennis Panting - Community Development Program

In early 2023, Dennis connected with Real Futures Carnarvon with a clear goal — to overcome personal challenges and work towards his dream career.

Living with ADHD and Autism, and without a driver’s license, Dennis faced barriers to employment. But with the consistent support of his Real Futures Job Coach, he began taking big steps forward.

Our Community Development Program team helped him to:

  • Connect with a NDIS provider
  • Start driving lessons through the Driving Access and Equity Program
  • Complete a Basic Welding Skills training at Central Regional TAFE
  • Enrol in a Reptile Handling Course (starting October in Northam)

Dennis’s passion for animals has always been his driving force — his dream is to one day own a mini zoo. Recognising this, our team worked with community partners to create opportunities that align with his goals.

Through the Shire of Carnarvon’s Disability Employment Pathways Initiative, a customised role was created for Dennis at the Animal Compound Shelter, where he now cares for dogs and other animals in need.

This success was made possible thanks to the collaboration of:

We’re proud to stand beside Dennis on his journey and can’t wait to see what he achieves next!
