Real Futures helped Jamien break into the mining industry

How do you break into an industry when every door is closed?

Jamien was highly determined and had foundational qualifications but didn’t have access to the mining sector. So, he came to Real Futures for help.

Jamien came to us with:

  • Experience as labourer, farmhand, process operator, fencing operator
  • Cert IV Work Health & Safety
  • Cert II Resources & Infrastructure
  • Cert II OHS & Communications
  • Multiple other qualifications

We provided:

  • Referrals to information sessions with potential employers
  • Application support
  • Computer and internet for online interviews

Jamien was offered the position of Trainee Driller with Action Drill and Blast. He went on a site visit to Karana Mine Site so he could get full visibility of the role, environment, and lifestyle. With confidence in his decision, we then guided him through the onboarding process for his new position.

Now, he’s working as a Trainee Driller. He’s also commenced his HR license training to open doors to career advancement.

Note: Jamien was a participant in the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP), funded by the NIAA.
