Real Futures delivers Parent Pathways: a free and voluntary support service that helps parents and carers work towards their personal, study, or work goals, with support ranging from financial assistance to training and career guidance. For many parents, the first step towards economic independence is getting a driver’s licence—having broader transport options opens more opportunities to participate in society, access training and education, and gain employment. This is the story of Loretta, a First Nations parent from Mount Druitt, who used Parent Pathways to remove a key barrier on her path to independence.
A Barrier to Independence
For Loretta, a First Nations parent from Mount Druitt, the cost of driving lessons and the driving test was preventing her from getting her licence.
Removing the Barrier
Our team connected her with Get Licensed Driving School and covered the costs involved.
A Milestone Achieved
Loretta now has her provisional licence.
Looking Towards the Future
With this progress, Loretta is feeling more optimistic about her future, and our Parent Pathways team are continuing to support her with achieving her personal and career goals.
