We’re proud to share that seven aspirants from Belmont, WA have secured employment in the traffic control industry. This result reflects what’s possible when training, culturally appropriate support and strong employer partnerships come together.

From Info Session to First Shift

The aspirants’ pathway into work took just four months:

  • June: Aspirants attended an employer-led information session covering the roles, prerequisites and timing.
  • July: Aspirants completed Basic Worksite Traffic Management, Traffic Control and White Card training.
  • August: Employment medicals were completed.
  • September: Aspirants commenced work.

Removing Barriers to Entry

Starting a new job often comes with upfront costs that can stand in the way. Real Futures removed that financial barrier by providing personal protective equipment to every participant. Each aspirant was fitted out with steel cap boots, work pants, glove clips and a radio.

We also supported the aspirants through their employment medicals, onboarding and online inductions, so they could enter the workplace prepared and confident.

Support That Continues

Our work doesn’t finish once an aspirant starts a job. Our team will continue checking in with both the aspirants and their employers, working through challenges as they arise and revisiting career development opportunities down the track.

Thank You to Our Partners

We thank Dookarniny Pty Ltd, Jaangari Group Pty Ltd and Perth Traffic Training for recognising the potential in every one of these aspirants.

About the Program

The aspirants were part of the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP), funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA).
