Eddie Gains Engineering Qualification and Apprenticeship

Eddie Winmar

Eddie first joined our Community Development Program (CDP) in January 2020 with a clear goal in mind: to strengthen his skills in construction and improve his employment prospects.

Our team in Carnarvon facilitated opportunities for Eddie to immerse himself in small construction projects and community activities to develop practical experience.

To further support his goals, we referred Eddie to gain his Certificate II in Civil Construction with Training Alliance.

We also provided Eddie with a mobile phone so that he could stay connected to job opportunities. This enabled him to secure seasonal work as a labourer with Abacus Fisheries and ABC Foundation.

Next, we referred Eddie to TAFE Carnarvon for a basic welding course.

By now, Eddie was highly motivated to expand his qualifications even further, so he pursued the Certificate II in Engineering at TAFE Geraldton.

Together with Central Regional TAFE and Joblink Plus, Real Futures helped Eddie get started by:

  • Paying for his tuition
  • Providing personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Helping him secure accommodation

To support him in his studies, we regularly communicated with Graham, his lecturer, to ensure that Eddie remained supported throughout his training, which he completed in November 2024.

Eddie is now seven months into a full-time apprenticeship with KAEFER Industry, where he had earlier completed a work placement.

Well done, Eddie, on your journey so far! We can’t wait to see where your career takes you!
