On the 5th of January a lightning storm started three separate fires in the Gascoyne east of Carnarvon.
The fires joined together over a few days and became one super large fire consuming more than 470,000 hectares.

You can see from this photo how intense and hot the fire got in the Gascoyne

The fire burnt a considerable amount of the bush
The fire ground was 170km long and 60km wide it took 128 fire fighters and water bombers three weeks to control with extreme weather of 45°C degrees and 48km winds hindering the progress.

The bush fire in the Gascoyne jumped and merged to create one big fire.

You can see in this photo how hot the fire looks and the intense smoke that didn’t help the volunteers.
The DFES Coordinator approached Regional Manager Sean Challis and asked if they could have use of Real Futures 25-seater bus to help transport the volunteer fire fighters to and from the fires.

Just a small handful of volunteer fire fighters heading home after a long few weeks of fighting fires great full to Real Futures for an airconditioned bus at the end of there shifts each day.
Sean’s response was anything Real Futures can do to help. The Rosa bus was given a once over that afternoon from our mechanic and delivered first thing the next morning.

The fire devastated a large chunk of bush land in the Gascoyne

Morning debrief before getting started on another long day of fighting fires

A 737-water bomber flew in from Bunbury 1200km away to drop fire suppressant on the Carnarvon Mullewa Road to keep the main access road open.

Big plumes of smoke and intense conditions were what face the volunteers.
Real Futures was happy to help the volunteer fire fighters. Well done to all involved, it was a huge job to put out this massive fire.
