Community Development Program

Real Futures Horticulture
Real Futures operates the Community Development Program (CDP) in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia, with site locations in Carnarvon, Exmouth, Denham, Burringurrah and Gascoyne Junction.

The CDP, and associated Trialling Pathways to Real Jobs, are a Federal Government initiative to create employment and training opportunities for Indigenous Australians living in remote communities.

Our Team Leaders and Service Coordinators are coaches.

They coach our clients to set their goals and support them towards achieving them.

In support of finding employment, we facilitate training and certifications to ensure our clients have the appropriate skills, tickets and certificates to be employed in the job of their choice.

We partner with local employers to share job opportunities and assist our clients with their resumes, applications and interviews.

Once employed, we provide post-placement support to ensure our clients are happy and sustain their employment.

How we can support you:

Connection to education and training (including on-the-job training)
Involvement in activities that support cultural practices such as Men’s and Women’s Business
Essential skills training such as literacy and numeracy
Preparing your resume and cover letter
Assistance searching and applying for jobs
Mentoring and career coaching, even after you’ve got a job
Interview preparation and practice
Work-like activities designed to boost your skills and experience, like working in a cafe or on a farm
Job placements and work experience placements
Mentoring and career coaching, even after you’ve got a job
Connection to social support services such as housing, mental wellbeing and transport

Community Projects

Our Gascoyne teams run impressive community projects and training initiatives for their clients.

Community projects are all about building skills and creating tangible outcomes, while displaying community and cultural pride. For many of our clients, joining the community projects team is a stepping stone towards employment.

Some examples of their innovative projects include the Jardilunji Mia Cafe, Real Futures Plantation, Burringurrah fuel station and store, and renovating Cardabia Station for a solar eclipse event.

We are also proud to work in partnership with The Shire of Carnarvon on local restorations and beautification projects as well as developing spaces for the whole community.

This includes building the Carnarvon Art Hub and running regular workshops, cleaning up the skate park and restoring the Carnarvon Heritage Precinct at One Mile Jetty.
