In January, we welcomed five new students and farmhands to our plantation in Carnarvon!
Clifford, Lester, Patrick, Robert, and Nathaniel have already impressed us during their first few weeks of work and study.
Alongside learning practical farm skills, the men are completing their Certification I in Horticulture, delivered by Central Regional TAFE.
By providing structured employment and hands-on training, the program helps participants develop the confidence and capability to transition into sustainable work.
This week, they’ll start their horticulture studies, learning essential knowledge in plant care , soil management, and farm operations, forming a solid foundation for their future in the industry.
The group will also receive additional training in farm machinery operation, ensuring they gain the technical expertise needed to perform a range of agricultural tasks.
We look forward to supporting our new cohort in their growth in the months ahead.
Creating A Garden Bed for Jardilunji Mia
Clifford and Robert recently took on a rewarding project at Gwoonwardu Mia, where they assembled a flat-pack garden bed for our hospitality students who are training at our cafe – Jardilunji Mia.
This initiative is part of the students’ native gardening studies, enabling them to grow and incorporate native herbs into their cookery.
By creating a functional and sustainable growing space, Clifford and Robert have contributed to both education and cultural preservation.
Not only did they build this gift for their community, they also honed their own practical and problem-solving, while learning the importance of following directions and working as a team.
