Lionel is showing what meaningful employment pathways can look like in remote communities.

Lionel, a proud Nunda man, started work as a farm hand in January. Since then, he has been building confidence, gaining practical skills, and taking important steps toward long-term employment.

Through Real Futures’ delivery of the Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES), Lionel has been able to strengthen his work readiness and continue developing skills that support both his employment goals and his community.

Since starting his role, Lionel has:

  • Built a strong and consistent work routine
  • Gained Chainsaw and First Aid qualifications
  • Prepared to undertake Certificate I in Horticulture
  • Regained his driver’s licence, increasing his independence
  • Grown his confidence through teamwork and hands-on experience
  • Identified future goals in machinery operations and further training

For Lionel, employment means more than a pay packet.

It has supported his mindset, motivation, wellbeing, and personal growth. Working alongside a crew he knows has also helped him feel connected, supported, and ready to keep learning.

Stories like Lionel’s reflect what our delivery of the RAES is all about: flexible, community-based support that helps job seekers in remote communities build skills, address barriers, and create real pathways to work.

We’re proud to walk alongside Lionel as he continues building his future.
