It often starts with a single spark: one person’s determination, one supportive connection.
For Dontre, that spark ignited a chain reaction of positive change, demonstrating the profound ripple effect we champion at Real Futures.
Despite the challenges of living with a disability, Dontre came to our Community Development Program team in October 2024 with a clear goal: to stay active, engage in meaningful work, and eventually find employment that aligned with his skills and capacity.
With the support of his Occupational Therapist Tina from Somerset Health, Dontre began volunteering with school-aged children. It was here that he formed a special bond with Anthony, a young student who needed encouragement to attend school and participate in class.
Recognising Dontre’s dedication and potential, Real Futures proudly offered him a role as a Youth Support Officer through supported employment in March 2025.
The impact was immediate: thanks to Dontre’s consistent encouragement, Anthony now attends school regularly and is on track to re-enrol in the Clontarf Foundation program—a major milestone in his educational journey.
But the ripple didn’t stop there.
With guidance from his NDIS Case Worker Max, Dontre has grown into his role, gaining confidence and pride in his ability to make a difference. His work now extends beyond Anthony, as he supports students in the Follow the Dream program at the Community College. From assisting with cleaning duties to participating in activities, Dontre ensures students can focus on learning and thriving.
And the impact keeps growing!
Dontre has recently been approved to support children in programs at the PCYC (Police and Community Youth Centre), further expanding his role in the community.
What started as one man’s determination to overcome challenges has blossomed into a story of community transformation. We’re proud to stand alongside individuals like Dontre, whose work inspires others and creates lasting change —one ripple at a time.
