Celebrating The Her Futures Wellbeing Program Graduation

Her Futures Wellbeing Graduation

In December 2024, we celebrated the graduation of our first cohort of women to complete the Her Futures Wellbeing Program.

They have spent 12 weeks participating in our tailored health & wellbeing program for First Nations women in Kempsey.

The group were truly dedicated – meeting for 1 hour a day, 5 days a week, with optional extra personal training sessions.

Throughout their time in the program, the ladies have got fitter, learnt about their health, mental wellbeing and healthy eating, mastered new healthy meals, expressed their creativity in art workshops, and set themselves inspiring future goals.

It’s been a joy to watch not only their wellbeing flourish, but also their self-confidence and connections to each other.

Her Futures Wellbeing Program Graduation

We’ve loved seeing everyone encouraging each other, having a yarn about their lives and getting out of their comfort zones.

A huge thank you to Fortify Your Health gym who ran our group and personal training sessions, and hosted us in their deadly gym.

The Her Futures Wellbeing Program is funded by the NSW Government’s Investing in Women Program and we thank them for their support.

We’d also like to recognise our beautiful team member and Program Coordinator Lauren who has run the program and supported these ladies.

Lauren is now taking her talents to the Real Futures Parent Pathways Program and we’d like to thank her for all her work.

Graduate Success Stories

ELIZABETH

Elizabeth is a local Kempsey woman who is a key figure in the community. She’s well known for catering for all the Sorry Business in Kempsey and leads a very busy life where her wellbeing isn’t often put first.

Elizabeth signed up to the Her Futures Wellbeing Program with her Mum and daughter. It was the perfect opportunity to look after their health, spend time together and support each other.

Since starting, Elizabeth has been killing the workouts and shared that the gym and being in a group of other women are her favourite parts of the program.

She said it’s hard to find women to work out with and now she’s got deadly sisters as gym and walking buddies.

Elizabeth shared that her top three personal changes since joining are being more motivated, making better health choices and feeling good about herself.

She says the program “helps motivate and encourage you to stay focused on wellbeing, health and healthy eating”.

ROSE

Rose was referred to the Her Futures Wellbeing Program by Mental Health Kempsey. Sadly, she had been a victim of domestic violence and had no family or support system in Kempsey.

Rose just joined the program as “something to do” but within a few weeks, realised how fun it was and felt motivated to come each day.

She shared that the program is “the reason I wake up each day and get out and about”.

She’s eagerly participated in all of the workshops including cooking, mental wellbeing, goal setting and crafts, and the fitness sessions on offer.

She now has goals of joining netball and boxing, going running, reducing her junk food and drinking more water, which she feels confident that she’ll reach.

It’s been a joy to witness Rose blossom in the program and the other ladies take her under their wing. It’s safe to say she now has a strong support network in Kempsey!

She says that she “feels much better, everything is good now”.
