Congratulations to Kaleb Scrivener, Jakeb Murphy, Marshall Hawes and Jye Cole who attained skills for the construction industry from the Geraldton TAFE, through the Transition to Work program.
After four weeks in the short course, they have now obtained their white card. During the course, they received onsite experience in the industry and met with industry employers for potential apprenticeship and employment opportunities.
Despite leaving the traditional schooling system before graduating, they thrived in this hands-on learning environment. Not only did they gain qualifications and skills, the four lads have fostered friendships and the change in them is clear, as Jorja (their mentor) commented: “It was really good to see them come out of their shell.”
Transition to Work Manager Kristy Sinclair describes the Transition to Work program as more than just a steppingstone to jobs:
”“Transition to Work and short skills courses are critical investments into the future of young people and the broader community. They provide hope, skills, and opportunities that lead to long-term economic and social benefits, ensuring that every young person, regardless of their background, has the chance to succeed.”
Real Futures is continuing to support Kalab, Jakeb, Marshall and Jye transition into employment and/or apprenticeships. We’ll be working closely with employers and training providers to ensure that these young men will have the confidence, skills, and opportunities they need to succeed in their chosen careers.
