When Jye joined our Transition to Work program at the end of October 2024, he was facing a lot of uncertainty. He didn’t have a job and was couch surfing — so our first priority was making sure he had somewhere safe to sleep.
From there, we worked alongside Jye to help him build the skills and confidence he needed to become job-ready and financially independent.
Together, we focused on:
- building budgeting skills through a financial literacy workshop
- preparing for job interviews, including personal presentation
- creating a resume
- practising interview techniques
- making sure he had phone credit so employers could contact him
In January, Jye reached an important milestone: gaining his Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate, opening up new opportunities in hospitality.
Soon after, he secured a job at a fast-food chain.
For Jye, having a job is about much more than earning an income. It’s a pathway to stability. Regular work means he can start saving, plan ahead, and take steps towards securing stable accommodation of his own.
Now, Jye is working towards his next goal: getting his driver’s licence. We’re supporting him through our driver safety workshops as he builds the skills he needs to get on the road safely.
Having a car would be life-changing. It would give Jye greater independence, make it easier to get to work, open up more job opportunities, and help him take another important step towards long-term stability.
Our Transition to Work team in Geraldton is proud to continue to support Jye carve a more stable future for himself.
