Real Futures Speaks At The United Nation’s 67th Commission on the Status of Women

Commission on the Status of Women

On Wednesday 8 March, Real Futures had the honour of speaking at the 67th Commission on the Status of Women, United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

We were invited to contribute to the event “Rewiring the network: Digital education and skills for girls’ and women’s empowerment”, organized by ITALY, UNESCO, UNICEF, The Group of Friends for Education and Lifelong Learning, in collaboration with UN Women.

Our inspirational Reach Out Officer Nakoa Pitt, a proud Yuggera Bul and Meriam Le woman shared her journey from starting out as a Women’s Business 2nd Chance Hub Aspirant to becoming a Reach Out Officer.

She is now dedicated to working at the Hub to support First Nations Women through education, employment & entrepreneurship pathways.

In speaking to the importance of the Second Chance Education Program Nakoa says:

“Two years ago I was suffering with severe depression and low self esteem due to bullying in my previous workplace, I had no self-confidence and was looking for a culturally safe space to be able to connect with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women that would help me find my way again. Around this time I found the Real Futures Women’s Business 2nd Chance Hub which is designed and led by First Nations women for First Nations women, this is where my healing journey began”

Commission on the Status of Women

Real Futures is working closely with UN Women to deliver the ground-breaking Second Chance Education Program exclusively for First Nations women in the Greater Western Sydney, Hunter, and Kempsey regions of NSW and in Carnarvon WA.

The WB2C Hub aims to give women the chance to achieve quality learning, entrepreneurship, and employment outcomes through access to educational, employment and support services, tailored to their needs as learners and future earners.

This week our team celebrate International Women’s Day in New York City as we connect & share our experiences with delegates from around the world at UNCSW67
