What is Transition to Work?
The Transition to Work employment service helps young people aged 15-24 into work (including apprenticeships and training) or education.
Transition to Work participants receive intensive, pre-employment support to develop practical skills to get a job, connect with education or training, find local job opportunities, and connect with relevant local community services.
Check your eligibility
To participate in Transition to Work, you must be aged 15 to 24. It will also depend on whether you:
have a Year 12 certificate or Certificate III
have been employed within the last 6 months
are getting an income support payment such as Youth Allowance
are participating in another employment service such as Workforce Australia Services

What you will do?
A Transition to Work Provider (TtW) will work with you to find the best mix of activities and services to help you achieve your goals. This may include:
capability development and adult life skills
career guidance

How we can help you
Our Youth Mentors will:
Work with you to assess what assistance you need to find a job or return to education/training
Check your wellbeing and arrange for support services where these are needed
Develop a Job Plan with short-and long-term goals as well as career building pathways which will be reviewed quarterly
Help you with career advice, preparation of resumes, job applications and interview preparation
Arrange for you to develop skills through training which builds on your strengths, abilities, and interests
We are flexible – we can meet with you face to face at our Youth Hub or via our mobile hubs, or via Zoom /Facetime/text/chat – you can contact us 24/7

Our Annual Youth Summit
Real Futures is committed to young people having a voice in their future and we want your views. We organise a Youth Summit where young people, educators, employers, Traditional Owners, Indigenous and government all meet to create better local job and education pathways. We encourage TtW participants to be involved. Just tell your Youth Mentor you are interested in attending.
Our Youth Advisory Forum
Real Futures wants to respond quickly to emerging events, so we arrange Youth Advisory Forums on a monthly basis which includes TtW participants, Traditional Owners, Indigenous & community, youth organisations, government and support services. These monthly meetings review and improve our local strategies, connections & service operations.
Benefits for Employers
Real Futures your Transition to Work provider will work closely with you to find the right person for your business. Real Futures consultants will make sure the young person meets your needs and receives pre-employment skills and training relevant to your business needs.
When you hire a young person, you and your new employee will get ongoing post placement support from your transition to work provider, who will stay in regular contact to ensure the young person is settling into the role and meeting your expectations.
You may be able to receive a wage subsidy of $10,000 when you employ a young person.
This will help to cover hiring costs or training expenses. Your Transition to Work provider can help you claim the wage subsidy.
